The KLK-WELD procedure uses the high temperature that develops in the reaction caused by the reduction of copper
oxide by aluminum. The reaction takes place inside a graphite mould-crucible, into which the pieces to be welded have
previously been placed; the metal resulting from the aluminothermic reaction, in molten state, flows over them, melting
them and forming a compact homogeneous mass.
The reaction is very fast and therefore the parts to be welded, in the area around the weld spot, reach a temperature much lower than that obtained using standard procedures. This is a very important factor when it comes to protecting the cable insulation or physical characteristics of the materials to be welded. KLK-WELD welding can be used in addition for welding copper to copper, steel to copper, etc..
The KLK-WELD connection is a perfect molecular weld and not a mere mechanical contact. The alloy used has a melting point nearly equal to that of copper and generally has a section of about twice that of the conductors to be welded, so that:
