KLK Power Resistors with Smart Monitoring: Pilot Project with Iberdrola

October 15, 2025 | KLK Resistors Smart Monitoring

KLK Electro Materiales continues advancing the digitalization of electrical maintenance through a new project with Iberdrola Spain. Pilot tests of the Power Monitor system are being conducted at the S.T. Asua substation (Basque Country), integrating it into our KLK Resistor power resistors to measure, control, and optimize key electrical parameters in real time.

What is the Power Monitor system?

The Power Monitor system is a technology developed by KLK for the advanced monitoring of power resistors used in neutral grounding systems and other critical applications in electrical substations. The KLK Resistors smart monitoring solution provides accurate temperature, current, and voltage data, enabling diagnostics and predictive maintenance of equipment.

Benefits of Real-Time Control and Monitoring

    • Instant control of temperature, load, and resistor status.
    • Historical logging of electrical values for analysis and optimization.
    • Early detection of deviations or overloads.
    • Integration with SCADA systems and artificial intelligence platforms.
    • Enhanced safety and efficiency in power network operation.

Thanks to continuous monitoring, operators can always know the condition of the resistors, detect anomalies before they impact service, and plan maintenance predictively. This approach reduces costs, increases reliability, and extends the lifespan of electrical equipment.

A Key Project with Iberdrola: Conclusion

The collaboration between Iberdrola and KLK represents a decisive step toward the digitalization of grounding systems and the intelligent supervision of power resistors. This pilot project aims to validate the accuracy of the Power Monitor system under real substation conditions, anticipating failures and improving energy efficiency.

System Applications

  • Neutral grounding resistors in electrical substations.
  • Current-limiting equipment in transformers and generators.
  • Thermal supervision in braking and test resistors.
